I fear

Disappearance

Of dreams

In the face of

Luxury and leisure

Lulled

Into deep sleep

They float

On the brink of

Precipice

Comfort

Of soft and downy

Life

Keeps them

Sleeping tight

Warm and moist

Ready to be hatched

But I fear

A sudden awakening

Causing

Them to crack

Ever so fragile

Dreams

Born out of

My womb

Many a times

Fated

A death before

Genesis

Split open

On a hot pan

Served

With salt and pepper

For my breakfast

Sunny side up
Alas!

To brighten my dull self

To sieve joy out of pelf

Someone's trying real hard

To whiten my negroid dreams

To spill color on my off-whites and creams

I call it racism

An attempt at submission

Of the dark side of me

They don't really understand

As much as my ecstasy needs release

So does my blues need expression

I divide and rule

Over the God and Devil

Who reside in me

If I have a smile in my words sometimes

Then don't grudge me the tear

That blots out the inky jottings at other times

Someday there might be a riot

In my heart's kingdom

There will be a battle for supremacy

Tell me who should win once and for all

My smiles which bring cheer to my expressions?

Or my teary words- a let-out for my depression?

If you chose my smiles

I would declare you selfish

Making my God work overtime

For in bad times when Devil worked

The God in me was on paid holidays

He at least had time for introspection

And If you choose my tears

Well what more can I say

But that you have sold your soul

Been bribed by my devil

To vote on his behalf

While I cry, you both will make merry

Wouldn't it be better

If I still rule over them both

By my divide and rule policy

And once in a while

Wear my colors

Sometimes sport black or white

Of my former self

The shrunken one!-

At high noon!

Just a black patch

On the face of the earth

Inanimate!

Joined at the feet

To the promise

Of the dream that I was

At the dawn of my life

Perhaps!

The evening would

Give me a new lease of life

Long and prominent!

Before the night does arrive

And engulf me

In the darkness

I would die!

Just a shadow

Of my former self

Am I!

Looking into the face of the moon

The circle of luminance whispered

Come over to me, dear maiden

I walked a few steps as if in a trance

Up the stairway of heavens I went

Enamored completely by its beatific smile

Nearer and nearer as I got I saw

A few blemishes on its otherwise lovely visage

Out of curiosity I blurted out and asked

What gives you these scars dear?

The moon lowered her lashes and smiled

Leaning forward whispered into my ears

It is not oily diet or the hormones acting up

My scars belong to that part of my story

Where I hide in darkness every fortnight

And cry over my failed attempts

To befriend the hero of the sky- the sun

Whose brilliance burnt me each time I got near

Now I've come to accept my fate as it is

He shines through the day with all his might

While I burn silently through the night

Set me free to fly

Bound

By a single thread

To explore the sky

They waited

For a favorable wind

To push me high

Perhaps they didn't see

Other predators

Flying nigh

Tangling threads

With a neighbor sigh!

I was brought down

From my flight

Homed and detained

Flaunted like a prize

This time

Bound by love

Of a different kind

Only my imagination flies

I dance with them often

Just to jog my memory

And shake the dust off them

I dreamt one night

One of these skeletons

A simple, sober, simpleton

Coming alive and abreast

Crooning a love song to me

Taken aback, I screamed murder!

Ran a few paces, stopped breathless

His song pierced my senses

I cried a few tears in silence

For his words spoke of love unrequited

Situation assessed, I returned

Only to find him nowhere

He had retired hurt

To a corner of the cupboard

Apologetic at having scared

The living daylights off me

I woke up with deep regret

It wouldn't be easy to forget

How he came back from the dead

For a little space in my head

And now he lives in my thoughts

Into my life, surreal romance he brought!

You can see through them

I can give lame reasons

You can walk all over me

But never in your wildest dreams

Dare to think

That I'll confess to your face

All this weakness I feel in my knees

When I read your words

And interpret their meanings

I'll remain a silent admirer

I'll watch as you play with your grammar

You may think, I like playing with fire

But never in your wildest dreams

Dare to think

That I'll come to you

And break down at your feet

Unable to bear the pain it gives

As you call me names and scream expletives

Sometimes when you write

You connect, straight to my soul

I feel slipping from under my feet

The firm ground beneath

But never, I say never in your wildest dreams

Dare to think

That I'll one day admit

To the hold your words have on me

I sway to their rhythm with a danseuse's feet

Some day with this secret on my lips

I'll die and reach paradise

And I'll say I have been closest to heaven on earth

When I read your words and danced to its music

Long drawn faces

Sulking times of togetherness

We endure with each other

This dragging drama of romance

Taking a toll on our minds

Sagging breasts mourn

Our impassionate love-making

Waking in the morn

Walking the crap talk

Until death do we part?

Would you listen?

If I said

Love is just a rose

Blooms in a chosen season

Wilts and withers soon

Into dry petals of insignificance

Romance is its fragrance

Passion its leaves

But the ones that last beyond its lifetime

Is the hardy, prickly thorns

Symbolizing its sufferings

So let me say, my love

We'll make do with thorns

Suffer the pain it gives

Who needs love's rosy petals?

Who needs romance's short-lived fragrance?

Let the passion dip like autumn leaves

Until the day destined

To our deaths we shall bleed

On a bed of thorns!

When Life gives a big yawn

I get sucked up in its gullet

Crushed, grounded and digested

Till I become an unrecognizable lazy mass

It's a big task then

To give shape or form to me

Instill me with determination

And most importantly with dreams and desires

Life's big yawn

Fills my brain with inanity

And moving my limbs of lead

Becomes a task difficult even for sake of dignity

Why does Life yawn so?

Awaiting its final sleep of peace

Shouldn't I wake up every morning ready to go?

Knowing that when life decides to sleep, I'll be dead meat!

Awake, Life, awake!

I don't want to see you yawn so

I've a zillion things left undone

Let me tie up all the loose ends before I go

Are you listening, Life dear?

Don't be lazy, get a push on

There will be a time to sleep

Just don't make it as early as this

I am young yet

And I have many dreams, some still unborn

Take me in your arms and dance this next waltz

Matching steps with you I've to take this world by storm!
